History
AIGA is the professional association for communications design in North America. Alfred Stieglitz, Frederick Goudy and others founded the organization in 1914 out of a shared commitment and a passion in the nobility of the profession. Their original defining statement: “Graphic design should be recognized as the purposeful arrangement of text and images to communicate more effectively and with dignity, elegance and impact; and accomplished with the highest expectations for the crafts of production.”

New York Chapter
AIGA New York is a forum for the exploration of ideas, issues and anxieties relevant to the field of design. It is one of 50 AIGA chapters in North America.

Mission Statement
The mission of the New York Chapter of AIGA is to identify and define critical issues for its membership and the graphic design profession; to explore and clarify these issues for the purpose of helping to elevate the standards of the business of graphic design; and to create a forum for the exchange of information, views, ideas, and techniques among those engaged in the profession.

Membership
AIGA has over 16,000 members nationwide, including 3,000 in the New York Chapter. Join AIGA and add your voice to the professional association for communications design. www.aigany.org
